investing in a failing economy?

It sure doesn't sound very logical to invest
in a failing economy but truth be told there
are a lot of different investments and every
loss involves another gain on the other side...
But with all the *prophesies* and crazy news
that we hear lately it gets a bit difficult
to know what to expect next...
So how can you best position yourself financially
for 2012 in light of all this?
